This is a refurbishment and fit out of a housing association flat in Wanstead, East London.
The project is a distortion between dreamy natural configurations and contemporary minimalistic design: There are hints of unusual rosé tones, abstracted ornaments and soft sheens which sit in stark contrast with high gloss white furniture and mirrored polished stainless steel details. Surfaces seem to be layered to achieve depth to the space. The scheme represents a negotiation of feminine romance and masculine harshness. There is a haze of lace, jelly fish veils and comfortable finishes that resist definition.
The aim of this project is to highlight that it is feasible to create a highly personal and bespoke living environment even within a rental accommodation achieved to a modest budget.
